The majority of your website’s visitors will leave without contacting you 🙁.
And, for the average small business, that was your first and last chance to convince that person to become your customer. This is one of the biggest challenges you will face when trying to actually generate customers with your website.
You see, this cycle of people visiting, and then leaving your website without doing anything is quite normal ... actually expected. The real issue is if the people who are visiting your website do not return.
This is because it normally takes a customer a minimum of 3 website visits before finally deciding to pull the trigger.
Your chances of getting a sale Increase with each additional visit to your website
That is why we recommend that you make the simple change we are going to discuss below.
How To Keep Visitors Coming Back
One strategy to combat this issue is to set up a pop-up on your homepage … YES A POP-UP.
Specifically, we want you to set up what we in the industry call an “exit intent pop-up”. This is a pop-up that is displayed the moment a visitor takes “physical” action to leave your site.
Your goal here is to use your “exit intent popup” as your second (and maybe final) chance to form a long-term relationship with the visitor. One that increases the chances that they will return to your website in the future.
Now, a lot of foreign websites will attempt to do this by asking their visitor to sign up for a newsletter, or try to get their email address in exchange for some kind of “free gift” ( like an e-book) … but I don’t recommend this for Jamaica.
Firstly, because you will now have to spend time writing an e-book or newsletters. Secondly, and more importantly, no matter how much time and effort you spend on your newsletter, the vast majority of Jamaicans will not be interested in reading it.
Jamaicans don’t like to read.
Instead, what we recommend is that your pop-up simply asks them to follow you on social media.
What this does is give them a painless way to “subscribe” to updates from your business, and gives you an opportunity to consistently stay “top of mind”. Jamaicans are much more likely to do this because it requires almost no effort, and does not require them to “give” you anything.
This will significantly increase the chance that this visitor, who was about to permanently leave your little walled garden, will actually return enough times to become a customer.
